Walking Yogi*

It was an old yogi doing his strenuous Yoga practice everyday in his small hut of a small village. He was doing this for many, many years without fuss and without waiting for any fruition other than final liberation from being and suffering. Due to his long hours of meditation his legs were very sore, asking him to use them for a walk. Answering their pitiful call, the yogi was going everyday for a walk in a park nearby. During his walk in the park the yogi was still practicing his meditation, his mind being totally absent to all the surroundings present there. But one day, he was looking at his feet walking there to notice a rupee just in front of him. He was looking around for anyone that might have lost that money. There was nobody around in the park at that hour, and the voice of desire was telling him to pick up the rupee. But then another deeper voice was telling him to just go with his walk and forget about the money.........which he just did.

Couple of day were passing by, and the yogi kept on walking in that park to make his feet happy. Then, one day, some young man came to the yogi saying: "Sir, a strange voice inside me was telling me to give you one hundred rupees! Here it is, please take it!" The yogi calmly replayed: "When this hundred rupees will become a million, just come back to me!" The young man was puzzled by what the old yogi said to him, but knowing he can't force him to take it, he went his way.

Many years were passing since that happening, and that young man, now a middle age adult, has become a multi-millionaire, living in a big house and luxury. But deep inside his heart he was still wondering about what that old yogi was telling him long ago. "Is he still alive?" he was asking himself. And he decided to go back in that park and see if the old yogi is still there. And he found him there, walking on the same alleys as he always was. Happy about finding him there, he was just going straight to him ready to write that million check.

"Do you remember me?", he was telling to the old yogi, checking to see his reaction. He was very expensively dressed, trying to impress the yogi with his success in life. The old yogi kept on walking without paying any attention to him. "Come on, you must recognize me, I am sure you do!", he kept on saying to him walking beside the yogi. Turning his face toward him without stopping from his walk the yogi calmly replayed: "Sure I recognize you, and you come back to me indeed. So what do you want now?"

A little puzzled about yogi's cold answer, the rich man just said: "I want to give you a million rupees!"

"What for?" the old yogi calmly replayed, without stopping his walk.

"Because I've promised to give you those money."

"You didn't promise anything. I've just said you will come back to me, and you did indeed! You are probably a millionaire by now!" the yogi told him into a calm voice, without stopping from his walk.

Disappointed about yogi's cold approach the rich man was about to give up on his philanthropic gesture, when suddenly, a strange feeling coming from the heart was telling him how unhappy he really was with his living. Having millions now, he had to take care of his fortune at all times, trying to hold on it and make it grow. He was worried most of the time, nervous, in short, very unhappy. With all these thought lingering, he was about to make another attempt to convince the yogi to accept the money, thinking his generous gesture will take him out of misery. Looking for him he didn't realize the yogi was now far in front of him, continuing his walk. "I've must have stopped when I was thinking", he told to himself, moving fast to catch up with the yogi.

Catching up with the yogi he said to him: "Listen, I really want you to have the money, please take it!". Stopping for the first time, the old yogi looked him in the eyes and said to him: "I don't care about money, and you should know this! But I will help you. Just go home now, knowing my blessing is with you!". Saying this, the yogi turned around to continue his walk undisturbed by the event. Feeling a little ashamed of his own unsuccessful attempt, the rich man went back home and his luxury entanglements, wondering what kind of help that old yogi will be able to give him. In a short while he forgot all about it, getting back to his usual routine of answering phones and taking care of business all day.

---

He was very tired that night, frustrated with some of his businesses that didn't go as he was expected. Carrying all these thoughts with him in the bed, he fell into a deep sleep. It was a summer day and the A/C was in full blast to keep that room cool. He was sleeping for about two hours when all of a sudden he woke up, all sweat and uncomfortable. He had a strange feeling someone else was in that room beside him. He was trying to light up the room, but he wasn't able too. A strange power was holding him nailed to his bed, and a soft voice - a voice he knew from before - was addressing to him.

"Don't be afraid, it is me trying to help you!" the voice was saying to him, and he saw the face of that old walking yogi present there by his bed. The voice was coming from the yogi, but in the same time he felt like coming from within himself.

"You are unhappy Raymond! You can change this..........but only if you want to" the voice continued, calling him by name this time.

"How do you know my name?" he asks the yogi.

"That's irrelevant Raymond, just try to relax and see your possible future" the yogi said, and all of a sudden Raymond was able to see a crowded ashram full of people, all living there in harmony and self-content. And he was there among them, his heart expanding with joy and bliss by just living there in harmony with all others. "This can be your future Raymond, but only if you want to. You want to give away your millions? That's the best way to do it and to make yourself and many others happy. It is your call Raymond............let your heart speak!"

A second later Raymond was able to wake up and light up the room. It was nobody there, just the powerful vision lingering still in his mind. He knew now, that was the help the old yogi was telling him will come. It was up to him now what to do with it.

Couple of weeks later he was heading to Brazil to establish a Yoga Center there free to all those in need to open their heart to Bliss. He was there among them, having many other strange encounters with the old walking yogi there, each of it giving him the help he needed to continue his blissful and simple living. Then he really, really understood the meaning of what the walking yogi said to him: "Let your heart speak!"
