Welcome! This page is dedicated to the grappling hook mods I have created for
Quake and Quake2 in '97 and '98.

This grappling hook mod has been adopted by many mods and is arguably the most realistic in its behavior because of its implementation
of real swinging physics. I created this mod because I was challenged by the community which claimed it might not be possible to create
a grappling hook that you can actually swing from. Several hooks existed at the time that were fixed and pulled the player in a straight line
which was not very realistic.
Other unique features implemented in this hook are: ability to climb and lower oneself up and down the grappling hook's chain/rope,
undisturbed use of weapons during hook use, and the ability to push opponents(i.e. in lava) or inflict damage from the hook's impact.
This mod was built with the Quake2 v3.20 source so you must upgrade your Quake2 first if you have a lower version. This mod is very easy to
incorporate with any other mod provided you have the source code for it. The hook's source code is included and the documentation explains exactly
what lines have to be changed in the original source code to merge it with another.
This mod also includes the Airtime map. I created this map specifically for the swinging hook. It contains some of the largest and tallest rooms
you will ever see in Quake2 for your ultimate swinging experience. It’s a freestyle tricks map which becomes more and more fun as your swinging
skills improve -- so don't give up! To see this map's game play view the demo mentioned in the Q2hook.txt.
Due to the large volume that needs to be rendered in the viewport, you should play this map preferably with the OpenGL renderer. The software
renderer will cause the walls to pop in and out as max edges and surfaces are reached.
This mod is the original Swinging Grappling Hook which was first created for Quake. It basically has the same features as its successor
does for Quake2. In my opinion, the original Quake engine handles its physics a little better than Quake2. The swinging experience
is much smoother and pleasant because Quake was not encumbered with the prediction stuff added to Qauke2 in the name of optimizing
online game play. If you still enjoy the original Quake, try this one out.

This was my initial attempt at the Airtime map for Quake which I later refined for Quake2 and is now included with the swinging hook mod for Quake2.
The original Quake did not have jump pad entities built into the game so this map also needed a code mod for it to work. Check out the demo for game play.
